Just repaired a completely dead Kenwood TS-780 and I would like to share my repair experience with you...
Symptoms:
Completely dead radio, no activity anywhere, only 21 volts on the rectifier bridge.
Measured a 0.3 ohms resistance on the power supply output: Apparently a short cicuit somwhere in the rig causing the power supply to shut off.
Cure: replacement of a short circuited Tantalum elco (3 blue pieces present, best to replace them all) on the 2 meter power amplifier.
(it took me 6 hours, a bottle of vodka and two king size chips packages to find this little bastard)
Please take your time now the radio is open to turn back the FM deviation from a whoppng 7 kHz to a standardised 3 kHz.
