Unplug the unit.
Remove top, bottom, and side covers.
Unscrew the top, side, and bottom screws that hold the front on. There are 2 screws (1 on each side) that allow the front face to simply fold forward and hang.
If you're sitting in front of the rig with the top facing up and the face hanging in front of you, you will see the display power inverter board still attached to the main body at the top right of the front in a sheet-metal housing labeled high-voltage.
Remove this part.
Find F01 (fuse #1). On my rig, it had two yellow wire leads and the TF 2A 102 degrees F fuse stuck between two transistors. (Get it, the thermal fuse is between 2 transistors that could overheat!). F01 was right next to R01. Don't confuse them.
On my rig, F01 was open circuit (i.e. "blown").
We clipped the leads to remove the fuse. You can either replace the fuse with another one or just short the leads. I shorted the leads and am just going to pray for luck.
Put it all back together.
This worked for me.
I really don't have much technical service experience. I had a friend of mine WB4MSG help me. He's great. It took us about 1.5 hours to disassemble and repair and another 1 hour to re-assemble.
