Experiences with converting the FT-811 from the US to the european version
Background:
In Germany (and other european contries, too) you have to send a carrier with a 1750 Hz tone to activate a repeater. This function is usually not available in US models.
Besides the different frequency ranges (which can be solved with the information at www.mods.dk and elsewhere), the US version has a monitor function which opens the squelch and changes the frequency to the repeater input. In the european version, this button activates the transmitter and sends the 1750 Hz tone.
Solution:
- Close JP5 (slighlty below the copper shielding plate). This changes from "Monitor" to "Tone Call" and sets the repeater shift to 7.6 MHz.
- Close JP9 (upper 2 pads of a 3 pads jumper field, left of the lithium battery, antenna jack to the top). This enables the AF route from the processor which generates the 1750 Hz into the microphone amplifier path.
You should do a reset after changing JP5, else changes may not take effect.
It is quite likely that this modification is applicable with the FT-411, but this has not been verified.
As always: I am not resonsible for any damage that may occur. If you feel you can't do the modification by yourself, ask somebody who is more experienced.
