I wanted to open TX on 40 meters for the new band allocation 4.100.00 - 4.200.00. Having spoke to a very helpful gentleman it was concluded that I only had to remove 1 solder pad, Jumper 1002 to execute the operation.
It has opened the required allocation and as a bonus I have kept my ARS settings, so jumpers should look like this,
-----BACK OF RADIO-----
1007 - BLANK
1008 - JUMPER
1009 - BLANK
1004 - BLANK
1005 - BLANK
1006 - JUMPER
1001 - JUMPER
1002 - BLANK
1003 - BLANK
----- FRONT OF RADIO-----
Only 1,6,8 Jumpers should be populated all the rest should be de-populated Please note this is the UK MOD ONLY..
My advice for doing the mod is to use a low power soldering iron no more than 30 watts, with a fine point,Do not use soldering guns they use a lot of power concentrated at the point where the iron touches the board and may damage components or even burn the board!
With tweezers hold the solder pad firmly and carefully rest the iron point on the bottom of the tweezers (for stability) on to the pad.
Within 15-20 seconds the pad comes away and the mod is complete (very neat and tidy).
Press and hold the [F] and [V/M] keys;while holding them in, turn the radio on and Job done..
You will need to reprogram all the menu operations and memory channels..

Please note the mod worked fine on my FT 897 a UK version CPU.
I will not be held responsable for any problems caused to any other FT 897's
