Press and hold the AR button while powering up the radio, then press the AR button to step through a test mode, finally revealing the Firmware version.
Turn the radio off and back on again to return to normal operation.

If the VX-1R does not reveal any number after repeatedly pressing the AR button, your radio is version A106 (the latest version or later)
